CIMA’s latest pass rates that are currently available on its website covers the period of 1 October 2018 to 30 September 2019.
Pass rates for all case study levels are down from May to the August sitting. It is the first time in a long while (actually since last year) that Operational Case Study Exam pass rates breach below 50%.
Operational level seemed to be consistent throughout the year going from 57% in February to 59% in May. The fall to 46% is certainly surprising but the examiners have attributed it to the lack of technical understanding of some P1 elements.
Management level also had a good run from February to May, rising from 61% to 70%, but then dropping to 64% in August. 64%, of course, is still a good pass rate.
Strategic level rallies around 60% since August 2016, this time settling at 64%.
Gateway level maintains its low numbers after doing well in May 2019, rising from a low 18% to 32%. However, it went back down again in August 2019 for a steady 28%.
The OT exam pass rates are calculated on total exams passed over total exams taken for the periods stated below. There has been no new pass rates issued for the OT exam as CIMA focuses on the launch of the 2019 Professional Qualifications. We should have another update around July 2020 (or so the website says). Highlighted below in blue are the subjects/courses that have less than 50% pass rate. P1 still remains the only “dreaded” subject based according to the results at 48%.
It is important to note that the Certificate level percentages are based on the new Cert BA 2017 syllabus and all in all, the results at those levels are satisfactory.
Don’t be deterred or disheartened by the low pass rates for some of the courses/ subjects/ levels. The good news is that like a good managed project (here’s an E2 reference for you, students!), you will just need to ensure you allocate the costs, time, resources, patience you need to get through the levels effectively.
